The New York City subway

The elevated subway system in New York City remains a constant source of visual inspiration for me. It’s where street photography gets a little easier as people have no other choice but to stand still for a couple minutes while waiting, which allows a little more time to compose a shot but still has all the unexpected visual surprises of shooting on the streets.

Below is a collection of some my favorite frames captured on these subway platforms where I feel the element of natural light compliments the subjects that fill those spaces. I focused a lot on shadow play and how the light interacts with the environment, metallic surfaces and iron beams.

Lobby at One Vanderbilt II

Some experimental scenes I captured in the lobby of One Vanderbilt building in midtown Manhattan. I like how you can see a bit of the personality of each subject even through the abstract silhouette they are casting. The painterly effect of the frosted glass on the subjects is what initially drew me to this spot.
